A brilliant tactician can easily lay waste to opponents of equal or greater skill with a weapon. Fighters and Archers use tactics to increase their damage potential.
It is generally unwise not to devote as many points of skill into tactics that you can if you are using any type of weapon.
Tactics increases the amount of damage you deal with weapons, bows or if you are unarmed. The damage bonus scales with your characters skills, and is doubled at Grandmaster skill level.
Training Tactics
Tactics is gained any time you strike an opponent, and is normally mastered alongside other skills as you train.
