While I understand the concern, this is a classic UO feature. The original designers did hot Bob123, and Bob1004.
The trade-off is the confusion you raise.

I did however add a non-spoofable Certificate Of Identity to the game that largely mitigates this issue.

• You buy a CertificateOfIdentity at the bank.
• You double click it and target your pal Bob (the certificate records Bob's non-spoofable Serial number.)
• Next time you see "Bob", you simply double click the CertificateOfIdentity and target Bob. The certificate will then tell you if this is your pal Bob, or just another Bob.

PS. A side benefit of the CertificateOfIdentity is that you can target when adding a friend to your house to ensure you are friending the right person.
